What are the benefits of my son joining?Our fraternity offers a unique brotherhood of lifelong friends and also provides an opportunity for our members to develop successful characteristics and values. Alpha Kappa Lambda encourages its members to mature not only educationally but also socially. The goal of this process is achieving a wholeness of character that is prepared to assume the leadership responsibilities brought forth in the course of life. Our address is 561 Jefferson Ave., Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 35487 Back to TopWhat is your scholarship program, and do you have a required GPA?We require pledges to complete at least 12 hours of study hall per week. This is sufficient time to complete all homework and study for any tests. In addition, we require 3 study hall hours per week the semester following pledges’ initiation. In the event any brothers’ GPA falls below a 2.5, they will also be required to complete 3 hours of study hall per week. Back to TopDoes Alpha Kappa Lambda do anything beside social events?Alpha Kappa Lambda takes great pride in our successful philanthropy events. We believe a well-rounded fraternity must make a commitment to give back to the community. This past spring our Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Benefit Concert raised more than $3,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Alabama Chapter. Our annual philanthropy events include These Hands Don’t Hurt benefiting the Women’s Resource Center, Relay for Life, Hurricane Creek Cleanup, and The Heart Walk. We also organized a donation drive, volunteered man-hours, and held a benefit concert to help Hurricane Katrina victims. Receiving the University of Alabama Greek Excellence Award for Philanthropy, Alpha Kappa Lambda totaled 1,610 community service hours last year alone. We strongly believe hitting or beating pledges will be counterproductive to the brotherhood of the fraternity. Does Alpha Kappa Lambda participate in Intramural Sports? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Our fraternity enjoys participating in a wide range of intramural sports. During fall semester we organize both brother and pledge flag football teams. This past fall, our pledge flag football team made it to the semi-finals in the playoffs of the fraternity league. We participate in basketball, softball, and bowling intramural leagues during the spring.
